Arielle Kushman: I blew up a balloon and on the outside surface, placed words like "school," "marriage," "sexism," and "socioeconomic status" to describe social institutions and issues that we encounter in our world. However, the point of the balloon is that all of our customs, struggles, beliefs, and hierarchies are based around a man-made constructed reality, that is essentially centered around "nothing" (the air inside the balloon). When we dig further and further at the truth, attempting to identify what one, common thread underlies all of our lives, I believe we are ultimately just grasping for a truth that does not exist, as everything we live and base our ideals on is created by us, and thus cannot be indicative of or helpful in determining what the "truth" actually is.
